LSA GRADUATE DJ HOT LIPZ INTERVIEWED BY THE GLEANER

DJ Hop Lipz, a London Sound Academy graduate DJ has followed her dreams and moved to Jamaica to pursue her dream of being a DJ with great success! With great pride we can announce she is smashing it! Taking over the island one club at a time she's been rubbing shoulders with Jean Paul, Usain Bolt and more celebs than you can shake a stick at! She's building a huge fan base and has even been quoted by The Gleaner newspaper and it's readership as 'The best DJ in Jamaica!' Read all about it in the full page interview below or visit the article on The Gleaner's website.

Though she is fairly new on the deejaying scene, UK-born Janette Armstrong, who goes by the name Hot Lipz, is making her mark as a selector on the local music scene. Having got her start as a fashion designer, Hot Lipz told The Sunday Gleaner that, since being in Jamaica, her fan base has increased enormously.

"I worked in fashion for 30-odd years and I've been deejaying for two years. I found Kerry Ann Clarke of Kerry Man.Woman.Home, and she asked me to do a fashion seminar because I had previously worked as the head of quality management for French Connection, and I had told her that I wanted to help the designers in the Caribbean. She heard I was also a deejay, so she asked me to deejay at Collection Moda at the cocktail party, and from there, it has escalated humongously. It has been unbelievable," Hot Lipz said.

Armstrong says the transition from fashion to music has been a "natural progression" for her, as it has been a lifelong dream.

"For me, fashion and music connect quite well, and so it's just another expression of me. I've always loved music since I was a little girl. I've always wanted to be a deejay and I'm finally doing it quite a few years later. The transition has not been that difficult, because it's an expression of myself."

With 'funky music' being her speciality, Armstrong says she is able to roll with the punches and adapt to whatever genre is required.

"The reception I've received has been amazing. Absolutely amazing. In London, I've got a radio show and I've played in several clubs in Ibiza and Pacha London, and that's pretty cool. But now, I've been getting a lot of shows and people have been coming up to me saying, 'You're awesome' and 'You're the best deejay in Jamaica', and it has really blown me out of the water."

Future goals

Questioned as to what her goals for the future were, Armstrong said she also had plans of becoming a radio disc jock.

"My ultimate goal is to live in Jamaica, help out in the fashion industry, and play all over the Caribbean as a deejay. I think I'm very, very close in achieving this goal. I just need to get my fashion contacts up and running even more, because basically, the music is gonna pay for my fashion work. I really want to help out the young designers. I came to Jamaica just for the Collection MODA show, but because I've been getting so many deejaying gigs, I don't know when I'm going back home," she told The Sunday Gleaner.

Hannah Wants and Chris Lorenzo drop ‘ Rhymes’

One of our favourite producers (and one of the most heard in the studio) Hannah Wants has just released her new track with Chris Lorenzo entitled Rhymes with this great new video. We expect to be hearing a lot more of this here at LSA in the next couple of months.

After the phenomenal success of ‘Rhymes’, Hannah Wants and Chris Lorenzo’s dance floor killer now has video accompaniment in the shape of a retro-styled homage to the 70’s, a provocative tongue-in-cheek visual, directed by London-based Ivana Bobic.

Featuring on Annie Mac’s AMP 2014 compilation and championed by the lady herself, ‘Rhymes’ has fast become one of the biggest club track’s of the year since its release, having garnered over 700,000 plays on Soundcloud in the last month alone.

Over the last three years, Hannah has risen to the centre of a scene that is fast going global. Her faultless high-octane delivery behind the decks has projected Hannah to the forefront of dance music; her live sets are fast gaining Hannah worldwide recognition with summer residencies at Amnesia, Ibiza and headlining slots at some of the worlds biggest dance events.

Both hailing from Birmingham, their recent releases on Dirtybird Records and Food Music have reaffirmed their status among the UK’s leading DJ/producers, with their sleek, garage-flecked, rubbery bassline sound also catching the attention of key players Claude Von Stroke, Eats Everything and Shadow Child.

Chris Lorenzo, one half of revered duo Cause and Affect, is regarded as a godfather of Jackin’ house and also one of the most prolific producers around. As a testament to the global growth of his sound, in 2014 Chris collaborated with Grammy awarding winning Skrillex and played B2B with Steve Aoki at his Aoki’s Playhouse residency at Pacha, Ibiza.

’Rhymes’ is now available to buy for all of you via Beatport here: http://btprt.dj/12QuhqW
